I could really relate to this coming of age novel by Shashi Bhat, not because I grew up in Canada but because her parents are South Asians from Southern India which is where I am from. I liked the fact that she dispelled the myth that all Indo-Canadians eat Butter Chicken and talked about masala Dosa and Carnatic Music. Other than that I find most reviewers like the early part of the book rather than the second part where the protagonist Nina is an English teacher. I however, liked the second part better. I loved the references to her Toastmasters meetings. The book as a whole is very good.
