This is Lippman's best work to date. The skipping in time and voice was annoying at times, but it is worth it because when all is relieved at the end, it become apparent that we needed to see how each character became who she was. There is only a passing reference to Crow, the child and Tess, but we have a good understanding of how it all ties together and leads to the next book in the Tess series. Sandy is a very interesting character, and having his story laid out for us will make the next book even better.
