Everything is wrong with this 1996 Miramax Films version and it's possible to enjoy any of the other 3 film versions offered at the VPL. I believe a grave mistake was made in casting and the artistic presentation seemed out of step. I even tried to imagine the talented Gwyneth Paltrow (enjoy her role in "A Perfect Murder" instead) playing "Harriet" and the brilliant Toni Collette playing "Emma". I found no redeeming features in the filming, script or attitude of this misguided inferior movie version. All other VPL film versions castings are more true to the book.
