Since I think Meryl Streep is an amazing actress with a broad range, this novel caught my eye. It’s set in coastal Maine, an area I love, and is based in a bed & breakfast owned and run by Lolly, the mother and aunt of the other three younger female main characters in this story. Only Lolly and her daughter Kat were living in the B&B at the beginning, but the two sisters, Isabel and June, come back when Lolly calls them all together to make an announcement. Each character is going through major issues and at first they are going through them alone. There is a movie night at the B&B and it is Meryl Streep month. Sometimes Lolly’s best friend Pearl and some of the guests also watch the movies with the four women. It is when they talk about what’s happening in the movie that they also start talking about what’s really going on in their lives. They grow closer and really start to support each other. This is a story about relationships between women and some of the men in their lives. There have been trauma and tragedy, love and growing apart, children and wanting children. Keep a box of tissues handy; I certainly needed them. I loved this book and will look for more by Mia March.
