Very informative! Henninger's short stories and supporting photos were illuminating into those times!
I enjoyed this as much as Eleanor Burns book of quilt symbols on the Underground Railroad.
I was especially interested as my grandmother told me that she fed hobos if they would chop some wood for the stove. Will now make a cat block :)
Loved the glossary of hobo symbols in the back of the book. I don't quilt, so the instructions weren't helpful to me. However, I loved the photos and enjoyed the stories!
This was a really interesting, almost verging on bizarre quilting book. It was, however, a SUPER interesting take on writing a history of the Great Depression.
How people lived during the depression. It is heart-breaking the way some people treated the unemployed at a time when there was no social assistance. There is a story with each quilt block--which, to my mind, are adjuncts to the stories.
