Beautiful sets and clothes. Liked some of the music.

I liked this musical drama. It has very little dialogue. The songs tell the story. The songs are witty and comprehensive. The character are deep. The story is strong and simple. The dancing was well done. The costumes and props were 1910 or earlier. It was well presented. The story: Acclaimed Professor and confirmed bachelor Henry Higgins makes a wager with his linguistic colleague Colonel Pickering that in six months he can pass off “gutter snipe” Eliza Doolittle as a duchess at an embassy ball. Through arduous training, day and night, Eliza learns how to speak English “properly,” and transforms into a lady respected and adored by all classes. Along the way she bewitches young Freddy Einsford-Hill into falling in love with her, and convinces a supposed linguistics expert that she is royalty. Through her transformation process, Eliza forges a deep connection with Colonel Pickering and most especially with Professor Higgins. However, she finds herself in a difficult position, now too refined to go back to her old life and not with any means or desire to live life as a lady of leisure – especially by herself. When Higgins completely fails to acknowledge Eliza’s role in her own transformation, she leaves his home. It is only then that Higgins realizes that he cares deeply for Eliza. The play ends with Eliza’s return to Higgins’ home, and the ending is left ambiguous, yet it is beloved for being both one of the cleverest and one of the most romantic plays of all time.

Made in 1964, and time period/values show. Unclear why Eliza would go back to The Professor at the end.

This is hard to rate. There are some really great songs and some memorable visuals. However, and I'm not blaming Rex Harrison for his acting, but I just find that character really annoying and that comes through, for me, even in his "songs". Well done but really annoying. So, for me, I prefer the cd, which I've ripped selectively, leaving out the annoying parts.

GREAT 1964 film adaption of Broadway stage hit. Not sure how I missed it all these years, but now I've seen it and truly enjoyed the performances of Audrey Hepburn at age 35 and Rex Harrison at 52.
Lots of great staged scenes, especially the street cart dancing scene during 'Wouldn't It be Wonderful'.
Got to give credit to singer Marni Nixon who did the fabulous actual singing which Audrey only mouthed; most looked okay, except during 'I Could Have Danced All Night' which was so off I noted it, not so much the others.
Lots of terrific costuming - even that whacky HUGE hat Audrey wore during her ballroom debut (which is shown on DVD cover).
So much to enjoy about this film - one of the best musicals ever!
But I did find the romantic ending a little odd; guess they just had to wrap it up and this is what we got.

Beautiful songs (esp. Wouldn't it be lovely and On the Street Where You Live) but very unsatisfactory ending, and Higgens isn't portrayed as enough of a bad guy that he is. I wish it would have showed him have compassion for Eliza in the end, and see her as a person. Or I wish she had ended up with poor Freddy!:P

Pure joy to revisit this wonderful musical. Great acting and great soundtrack. Entertainment at best!

Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison were made for the parts of Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins in this wry look at the British class system. Their onscreen chemistry is further enhanced by great sets, amazing costumes and one of the most recognizable collections of songs from any musical. Unfortunately, three hours worth of cotton candy proved to be a bit much for me and I found my finger hovering over the “skip” button about halfway through. A real treat for die-hard fans though.

Familiar songs and some great set pieces ("Ascot Opening Day" is marvelous), but I wish they'd do "Pygmalion" instead. Eliza and Henry should *not* end up together.

The magic of "My Fair Lady" is captured in the reviews here at the KCLS web sight. Audrey Hepburn is irresistible and Rex Harrison puts on his best film performance. This may be the best musical on film. You be the judge though. I think you will be like me, I cannot get enough of "My Fair Lady". Why their aren't more traveling or Broadway shows of it is beyond me. "My Fair Lady" has millions of fans and will have them for many generations to come! What's more it is perfect viewing during the holiday. A great family film!
