"For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world." I John 2:16

Unfortunately, the main character purported to be a strong Christian has all of these.

He lusts after two women who are beautiful. He even has a lustful dream of one of them and calls it jokingly with another man a "good dream." I call these dreams nightmares where I do not obey my God.

He goes after Biblical artifacts to prove the authenticity of the Bible. That is good, but in so doing he goes into situations where he knows his life will be in danger. Is he putting God to the test? At one point in a fight, he kills two "Asians" and a "Giant." His only regret at these deaths is the disgust of having the giant's blood on his hatchet when he pulls the hatchet out of the giant's leg. Does he not know that Christ died for these people, too, who were following the orders of their employer Methusaleh?

Murphy's pride is evidenced in no submission to his boss the Dean of the Arts and Sciences because the Dean does not agree with Christian values and beliefs. The main character publically ridicules the Dean with great Biblical arguments, which all sounds good, but how is he submitting humbly to the person in authority over him? When does the main character exhibit the heart of Christ and fear for this man's salvation?

The book gives much information about ancient religions and Murphy teaches this to his class. This information is very interesting and certainly knowing your enemy's methods help to fight in our spiritual warfare. The pharisees , sadusees, and teachers of the law in Jesus time had great learning and yet Jesus said,"You shall know them by their fruits. ... By their fruits you will know them. Do you. gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?" Matthew 7:16

The simple Gospel message that Christ died to save the lost is given throughout the book, but is not lived out in the characters's lives. No where is anyone taking up daily their cross to follow Christ.

I loved the "Left Behind" series. This book sickens my soul and I had to stop reading halfway through. I pray the authors find the power of the true Jesus and know the depth, breadth, and height of the love of the Father for each of them and all people.

Really good book! Only negative thing was..... there's a love triangle that is DEFINITELY not needed!
