Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a phenomenal film full of the heart and humor director Taika Waititi does so well. The film follows Ricky Baker, a child in New Zealand's foster care system who must adjust from his city life to a life in the bush. The screenplay walks the perfect balance between light, humorous, and heart wrenching. I found this film quotable, comforting, and perfect for rewatching. If I was only able to watch films from a single director for the rest of my life, Taika Waititi would be on the very top of the list. If you enjoyed the new Thor film I would highly suggest giving Hunt for the Wilderpeople a watch...or twelve.

Great movie. I would have never seen it if it were not for my friend who recommended it to me and I'm glad he did. Very funny and a good drama. I would recommend it.

My partner and I really enjoyed this movie. Full of charm and some humour, with a serious side too it. Took awhile to realize that the main adult of the film was Sam Neill, from the Jurassic Park films, whom was very good in this quirky but enriching story. Recommended.

This movie started off interesting but fell flat about 10-15 minutes into it. I was very disappointed.

A lot of fun. The character of Ricky is absolutely hilarious, and he is a joy to watch. You can definitely feel the influence of Wes Anderson through the set direction and pacing. A great light movie to watch with friends and family.

I'm amazed how many people liked this movie. I gave it up as a dead loss.

I couldn't stand the background music, so I was watching it on mute. Spoiler alert if you haven's seen it: Then the first tragedy struck, and it was too much for me. I fast forwarded, and (Another spoiler alert:) knew the second one would happen because it always does when there's an animal in the film.
I stopped watching at that point and had no desire to see the rest of movie. I hope, after all the pain, it had a good ending.
It's hard for me to believe that anyone actually thought the film was funny. Nor do I think it's appropriate for kids (and that's not because of the marijuana but because the boy and man go through too much pain. If kid viewers are being encouraged by their families to laugh at these events, I have to wonder about their own families.
The only positive comment I could make is that the scenery is often beautiful; but then, of course, it's New Zealand. The writers, director, or producers can hardly be given credit for that. I would give them credit for nothing. It's not the fault of the actors, either; they did the best the could with so little to work with by way of plot or script.

One of those films for the whole family. The police are looking in the New Zealand bush for an old white guy and a Maori youngster who are on the run.

Taika Waititi is a brilliant force both on the camera and behind it. This is an especially charming film dealing with the ideas of family, innocence, and the perils of growing up. There's a rich insight into the culture of the New Zealand bush life and wonderful characterization.

This movie is always on my list to recommend when customers are looking for a lovely, not-mawkish family film. The young actor who plays Ricky is fantastic, and Sam Neill does a fine job as a gruff foster father. A great exploration of what "family" means.

"Faulkner is cauc-asian" - well, they got that wrong because you're obviously white.
