I began this movie expecting to see more action than drama, I was mistaken. The plot was captivating, the love story was fairy-tale-esque but within cultural parameters. It's one thing to have a love story and another to have one with such high stakes and unique variables.
I loved this one and though I haven't seen the prequel I imagine it'll be hard to top this. Lots of beautiful people in the film too! If you're expecting wall-to-wall action look elsewhere, though, the fight scenes are pretty good (one of the fight scenes reminded me a bit of one from the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean fight scene). This movie filled me with a sense of wonder that I attribute somewhat to the folklore/storytelling that inspired it.
A good one for couples I'd say.
What an unexpected joy. This is a lovely and well acted film about Chinese folklore.
I disagree... ...It was not slow or hard to follow. Resurrection was the CONTINUATION of Painted Skin.
If there are any sic-Fi, anime lovers out there you'll love this movie.
It's filled with funny clips and suspenseful times between two who want to have what they need but keep missing it.
There's a rather disturbing scene that's kinda scary but other than that pretty cool.
Slow and hard to follow.
Other than good computer graphics, the rest of the movie is mediocre.
Although I was unable to watch "Painted Skin 1", because the VPL's copies have no english subtitling, this sequel is incredible! The costumes are amazing and beautiful and the art is just incredible. As a Martial Arts/Fantasy film it is top notch. Definitely worth seeing, even if you are not crazy about the genre. You just need to appreciate the art of filmmaking---and girls kicking butt!
Love this more than Painted Skin One. http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117947772/ Super production of a supernatural love story with wonderful costumes, photography and music on location of scenic Tibet highlands. And from Seatle Public Library's description: According to ancient lore, if a human freely offers their heart to a demon, that monster can become mortal, experiencing the true pains and passions of existence. Xiaowei, a millennia-old fox spirit, searches for her chance to become human. Princess Jing flees her kingdom by pursuing the only man she ever loved. A twist of fate brings Xiaowei and Jing together, and a slow game of wits, deceit, and seduction begins for the princess' very own heart. (If you can't wait, go for Netflix Stream)
