I liked how this ended. It was a bit slow going but I'm not sure if that was because of me or the story. And Anna's ending did catch me off guard, so my eyes might've leaked a bit. It does feel like there could be more story to tell such as if Cas's father was truly freed and what might become of Jestine under the Order... Only time will tell but I'm at least satisfied for how Anna's arc concluded.

I have to say, this was a kind of disappointing follow up. I wanted more Anna, and instead I got... Jestine. An annoying, inconsiderate, typical "kick-ass girl" with an I'm-better-than-all-of-you attitude. Way too much page time. And there was a borderline love triangle with her, Cas, and Anna. Gag.

It felt like many elements of this sequel were forced. Like it could have been much shorter and more direct. Like there was too much filler. A little less conversation, a little more action, please.

Plus side: Cas is still a great narrator, and I still really like Carmel and Thomas. Also, there are a few creepy scenes, especially when they are in the UK.

The ending was bittersweet and I think it worked, but overall, I am underwhelmed by this duology.

It's very rare to find a sequel AND the conclusion to a story that is so amazing. The book was a pure pleasure to read.

I was so happy when I found out there was a sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood. This book is just as good as the first--full of suspense, action, and mysteries. I love it! Blake did a good job of writing something intriguing, humorous, insidious and exciting all at the same time. I love how she writes Cas and I love his interactions with Jestine, the ''love-her or hate-her'' kind of character. The ending was bittersweet, but I think it suited this series well. I hope one day Blake decides to write a third book!

It was great to dive back into the world of Cas, Anna, Thomas and Carmel. This book just hit all my buttons and I devoured it. It was so spooky when Cas started seeing Anna. He couldn't know for sure if he was hallucinating or Anna was actually haunting him. Now normally a relationship between a human and ghost is not something that really works for me, but Kendare Blake does it, she writes them so well (see also Stacey Kade's The Ghost and the Goth series for another believable human/ghost romance though it's definitely not as dark as Cas/Anna).

Also, secret society! England! smart-ass ghost-hunting girl! Those are some of my favorite things, although it took me a while to warm up to Jestine. This is were the plot of the second book really picks up. OMG the Suicide Forest! So creepy! Lots of creepy things happen in this world and it's just the right amount of scare for me.

The climactic scenes really up-ed the ante and I was on the edge of my seat frantically flipping pages to see what would happen. I really don't want to give you any spoilers, so I'll just say that the ending was perfect and heartbreaking and bittersweet and still left me wanting more. Though this series only had two books I can only hold out hope that the author will write more of the world one day, I loved it that much.

The sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood.

Cas is still out fighting his way through murderous ghosts that need to be sent from the earth, but he's stayed settled in one place for far longer than he ever has before. He's even started a second school year in the same town and allowed the continuance of his very own Scooby Gang with his friend Carmel and his best friend Thomas. Unfortunately, the love of his love, Anna dressed in blood, is back from hell haunting his waking hours.

The book is a great move forward into Cas' story. Kendare's wit and humour is intact, her writing here creates a terrific sense of urgency that kept me turning the pages like mad. International travel, a suicide forest, and a group of people in creepy robes known as The Order ("Why are they always called an Order?")

A terrific follow-up to Anna Dressed in Blood. I have a feeling Kendare Blake is an author I'll be reading for a long time to come.

"Thomas and Carmel stand by my bed, looking down on me with bruises and scarred necks. Maybe somewhere my dad is looking on too. Maybe while being batted at by a hair-pulling black cat. My smile stretches wider. My way is clear."

"The ground shakes beneath Anna's body. She steadies herself with her hands and cowers as something somewhere not far away bellows. The sound is inhuman, echoing off a million walls. Sweat prickles down my spine and my legs move on their own; her fear drives me halfway to my feet. "Anna, tell me how to find you. Do you know?" Her hands cover her ears and her head whips back and forth. The window between us is thinning, or widening, I can't tell which; a foul smell of rot and wet rocks floats wide open. Let it burn me up. I don't care. When she sacrificed herself for us, when she dragged him down - And all at once I know who it is that's there with her. "It's him, isn't it?" I shout. "It's the Obeahman. Are you trapped with him?!"
